Regular Season Round 24: Minas - Sao Jose 124-119

Date: February 27, 2020
There was no surprise in Belo Horizonte where 14th ranked Sao Jose (5-18) was defeated by fifth ranked Minas (15-8) 124-119. However just five-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Minas dominated down low during the game scoring 68 of its points in the paint compared to Sao Jose's 46 and made 26-of-33 charity shots (78.8 percent) during the game. Minas players were unselfish on offense dishing 31 assists. 25 personal fouls committed by Sao Jose helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The winners were led by the former international guard Leandro Barbosa (190-82) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 22 points, 7 rebounds and 11 assists and American power forward Tyrone Curnell (203-88, college: Valdosta St.) supported him with 26 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Even 31 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists by Dominican guard Nehemias Morillo (196-92, college: S.Florida) did not help to save the game for Sao Jose. Argentinian point guard Diego Figueredo (185-91) added 26 points and 6 assists. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Minas maintains fifth position with 15-8 record. Sao Jose at the other side keeps the fourteenth place with 18 games lost. Minas will have a break next round. Sao Jose will play at home against Botafogo F.R. (#8) and hope to win that game.
