Regular Season Round 24: Breidablik - Sindri 96-78

Very expected game in Kopavogur where 8th ranked Sindri (2-15) was defeated by third ranked Breidablik (16-4) 96-78 on Thursday. The game was mostly controlled by Breidablik. Sindri managed to win second period 22-19. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Breidablik dominated down low during the game scoring 66 of its points in the paint compared to Sindri's 46. Breidablik forced 22 Sindri turnovers and outrebounded them 55-42 including 18 on the offensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 30 assists comparing to just 15 passes made by Sindri's players. The best player for the winners was American guard Larry Thomas (185-93, college: Birm.Southern, agency: SDJ Sports) who had a triple-double by scoring 20 points, 15 rebounds, 13 assists and 4 steals. Power forward Sveinbjorn Johannesson (202-98) chipped in a double-double by scoring 11 points and 20 rebounds. Thomas is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Breidablik's coach used entire bench and allowed the starting five to rest. At the other side the best for losing team was Swedish guard Andree Michelsson (188-97) who recorded 34 points (!!!) and 5 assists and Bahamas-Canadian forward Robert Nortmann (206-87, college: Dalhousie) added 14 points and 15 rebounds respectively. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Breidablik maintains third position with 16-4 record having just two points less than leader Hottur. Sindri lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the eighth place with 15 games lost. Breidablik will meet Alftanes (#5) in the next round. Sindri will play against Snaefell and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
