Regular Season Round 15: Batumi - Cactus Tbilisi 96-93

Eighth-ranked Cactus Tbilisi (6-8) gave a tough game to first ranked Batumi (10-4) on Friday. Batumi managed to secure only three-point victory 96-93. However their fans expected much easier game. The hosts trailed by 4 points after three quarters before their 29-22 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Batumi made 22-of-28 free shots (78.6 percent) during the game, while Cactus Tbilisi only scored five points from the stripe. They outrebounded Cactus Tbilisi 46-28 including a 32-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great evening for American forward Collin Malcolm (201-97, college: Warner Pacific) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 12 rebounds. International forward Aleksandre Phevadze (206-98) helped adding 20 points and 10 rebounds. Malcolm is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. The best for the losing side was American guard Brian Williams (187-92, college: Jacksonville St.) with 29 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists and the other American import forward Justin Everett (206-96, college: Humboldt St.) scored 13 points and 9 rebounds. Four Batumi and five Cactus Tbilisi players scored in double figures. Batumi have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They maintain first place with 10-4 record. Cactus Tbilisi at the other side keeps the eighth position with eight games lost. Batumi are looking forward to face Vera (#4) in the next round. Cactus Tbilisi's supporters also look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Tbilisi TSU.
