There was no surprise in Valencia where 12th ranked Picken Claret (5-15) was outplayed by tenth ranked Granada (7-12) 80-59 on Saturday. Granada dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Picken Claret's 24. They outrebounded Picken Claret 50-22 including a 37-14 advantage in defensive rebounds. Worth to mention a great performance of Trinidad and Tobago-Vincentian center Verdine Warner (196-92, college: Shaw) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 23 points and 12 rebounds and center Claudia Calvelo (192-92) who added 17 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists during the contest. Four Granada players scored in double figures. Point guard Maria Gonzalez (172-98) responded with 9 points and 6 rebounds and swingman Paula Garcia (175-99) scored 15 points. Picken Claret's coach gave up on the game allowing to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. Granada maintains tenth position in Group B with 7-12 record. Picken Claret lost third consecutive game. They keep the twelfth place with 15 games lost. Granada will face higher ranked UCAM Jairis (#9) in Alcantarilla in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Picken Claret will play against Mataro Parc and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
