Regular Season Round 20: Gran Canaria - Lima-Horta 99-64

Rather expected game in Las Palmas where 5th ranked Lima-Horta (12-8) was crushed by third ranked Gran Canaria (15-4) 99-64 on Saturday. Gran Canaria dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Lima-Horta's 14 and made 28-of-36 free shots (77.8 percent) during the game, while Lima-Horta only scored eleven points from the stripe. They outrebounded Lima-Horta 56-32 including a 38-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. Lima-Horta was plagued by 35 personal fouls down the stretch. Worth to mention a great performance of American guard Sparkle Taylor (178-95, college: UTEP) who helped to win the game recording 32 points and 8 rebounds and the other American import center Kai James (196-95, college: FSU) who added 26 points and 8 rebounds (on 11-of-13 shooting from the field) during the contest. Four Gran Canaria players scored in double figures. Center Cristina Pujol (178-95) responded with 15 points and guard Eliana Soriano (176-89) scored 5 points and 6 assists. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Gran Canaria have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain third position in Group B with 15-4 record having five points less than leader Estudiantes. Loser Lima-Horta keeps the fifth place with eight games lost. Gran Canaria will face league's leader Sant Adria on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Lima-Horta will play against the league's second-placed Ardoi (#2) and hope to win that game.
