Regular Season Round 19: Panathinaikos - Larissa BC 121-78
Date: February 29, 2020
Very expected game in Athens where 11th ranked Larissa BC (7-12) was crushed by first ranked Panathinaikos (17-2) 121-78 on Saturday. The game without a history. Panathinaikos led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They shot 60.9 percent from the field and made 22-of-29 free shots (75.9 percent) during the game. Panathinaikos outrebounded Larissa BC 44-29 including a 35-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 30 assists comparing to just 10 passes made by Larissa BC's players. It was a great evening for the former international Konstantinos Mitoglou (209-96, college: Wake Forest, agency: Wasserman) who led his team to a victory scoring 19 points and 9 rebounds. DeShaun Thomas (201-91, college: Ohio St.) helped adding 19 points and 5 rebounds. At the losing side American guard Billy Garrett (198-94, college: DePaul) responded with 19 points and the other American import guard Brandon Rush (198-85, college: Kansas) scored 14 points and 6 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the fifth consecutive win for Panathinaikos. Defending champion maintains first place with 17-2 record. Newly promoted Larissa BC keeps the eleventh position with 12 games lost. Panathinaikos will face Ionikos Nikaias (#10) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Larissa BC will play against Kolossos HH and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
