Regular Season Round 19: Melissia - Panathinaikos 49-81
Date: March 1, 2020
Very predictable result when second ranked Panathinaikos (15-4) rolled over on the road bottom-ranked Melissia (3-16) 81-49 on Sunday. Panathinaikos dominated down low during the game scoring 44 of its points in the paint compared to Melissia's 24 and made 19-of-25 free shots (76.0 percent) during the game. Panathinaikos forced 20 Melissia turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. It was an exceptional evening for American forward Chastity Reed (185-89, college: UALR) who led the winners and scored 22 points and 7 rebounds. Her fellow American import center Jewel Tunstull (190-92, college: Northeastern, agency: Two Points) accounted for 16 points and 9 rebounds for the winning side. Agapi-Sofia Kourpa came up with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 13 rebounds and swingman Eirini Kouki (189-99) added 5 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists respectively for Melissia in the defeat. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The victory was the eighth consecutive win for Panathinaikos. Newly promoted Panathinaikos maintains second place with 15-4 record having four points less than leader Olympiacos. Melissia lost their fifth game in a row. Melissia at the other side, also newcomer in the league, stay at the bottom position with 16 games lost. Panathinaikos' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Athens Eleutheria M..
