Second Stage Round 9: Gorizont II - Gomel 93-59

Leader Gorizont II blasted bottom-ranked Gomel (0-4) in Minsk 93-59 on Sunday evening keeping the perfect record after 9 rounds. Gomel is still unable to win any game. The game was mostly controlled by Gorizont II. Gomel managed to win fourth quarter 16-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Gorizont II dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Gomel's 30. Gorizont II forced 22 Gomel turnovers and outrebounded them 52-36 including 37 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists comparing to just 12 passes made by Gomel's players. Guard Maria Anufrienko (172-2) stepped up and scored 37 points (!!!) for the winners and guard Polina Makritskaya (172-1) chipped in 15 points. Gorizont II's coach Lidziya Matsal felt very confident using entire bench saving starting five for next games. The best for the losing side was forward Anna Hatskevich (180-92) with a double-double by scoring 19 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists and forward Yulia Haponova (185-94) scored 16 points and 8 rebounds. The victory was the fifth consecutive win for Gorizont II. They maintain sixth place with 5-0 record. Gomel lost their fourth game in a row. They still close the standings with four games lost. Gorizont II's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Minsk .
