There was an upset when higher ranked Saint Chamond (13-9) was outscored on the road by tenth ranked Nantes (12-10) 78-59 on Friday. Nantes forced 19 Saint Chamond turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Nantes made 8 blocks. Quite impressive performance for American-Armenian point guard Terry Smith (185-86, college: Mercyhurst) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 17 points, 10 assists and 4 steals. The former international Gary Chathuant (195-83) contributed with 20 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Four Nantes players scored in double figures. Nantes' coach Jean-Baptiste Lecrosnier used an eleven-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. American forward Paul Carter (204-87, college: UIC, agency: Inception Sports) replied with 18 points and 8 rebounds and Theo Bouteille (192-97) added 17 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Saint Chamond. Nantes moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Souffel. Loser Saint Chamond keeps the fifth position with nine games lost. Nantes will face Denain Voltaire (#10) on the road in the next round. Saint Chamond will play against Sluc Nancy (#3) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
