Regular Season Round 16: Honka - Sykki 103-69

Rather predictable result in Espoo where fifth ranked Honka (9-6) smashed 8th ranked Sykki (4-11) 103-69. The game was mostly controlled by Honka. Sykki was better in second period 25-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Sykki's 34. Honka forced 24 Sykki turnovers and outrebounded them 42-31 including 29 on the defensive glass. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 25 assists comparing to just 11 passes made by Sykki's players. Quite impressive performance for forward Alvar Peltoniemi (196-1) who helped to win the game recording 23 points and 7 assists. Guard Lauri Kallio (188-3) contributed with 16 points, 6 rebounds, 7 assists and 5 steals for the winners. Forward Cristian Ahokas (202-1) replied with 22 points and 7 rebounds and forward Kalle Koponen (190-2) added 13 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for Sykki. Five Honka and four Sykki players scored in double figures. Sykki's coach gave up on the game allowing to play eleven players seeing no chance for a win. Honka moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Kataja. Sykki at the other side keeps the eighth position with 11 games lost. Honka's next round opponent will be league's second-placed MuKi in Helsinki and it may be the game of the week. Sykki will play on the road against Kataja (#4) in Joensuu and hope to win that game.
