There was no surprise in Sao Paulo where 16th ranked Pato Basquete (4-21) was defeated by sixth ranked Pinheiros (14-11) 87-83 on Sunday. However just four-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Pinheiros outrebounded Pato Basquete 33-14 including a 23-8 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was American guard Cordero Bennett (188-88) who scored 20 points and 5 assists (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). The former international Betinho Nardi-Duarte (195-88) chipped in 12 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Five Pinheiros players scored in double figures. American guard Isaac Thornton (190-91, college: Fairmont St.) produced 23 points and 4 assists and guard Luis-Gustavo de-Oliveira (190-91) added 21 points respectively for the guests. Pato Basquete's coach Dede Barbosa rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Pinheiros maintains sixth position with 14-11 record. Pato Basquete lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted team stay dead last with 21 lost games. Pinheiros will meet at home Brasilia (#13) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Pato Basquete will have a break next round.
