Regular Season Round 21: Barakaldo - Estudiantes 49-72

Date: March 8, 2020
Leader ASEFA Estudiantes delivered the twentieth victory on Sunday night. This time they crushed 10th ranked Barakaldo (7-14) 72-49 in Vizcaya. They outrebounded Barakaldo 48-37 including 16 on the offensive glass. Barakaldo was plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was American guard Judy Jones (175-90, college: GCU) who had a double-double by scoring 15 points and 16 rebounds. Her fellow American import Leslie Knight (184-86, college: Minnesota) chipped in 13 points and 7 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was power forward Patricia Soler (186-94) who recorded 17 points and 8 rebounds and Australian Geralynn Leaupepe added 14 points and 8 rebounds respectively. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the nineteenth consecutive win for ASEFA Estudiantes. They maintain first place in Group A with 20-1 record. Newly promoted Barakaldo keeps the tenth position with 14 games lost. ASEFA Estudiantes will face league's second-placed GDKO Bizkaia in Galdakao in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Barakaldo will play on the road against Patatas Hijolusa (#8) in Leon and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
