Very expected game in Athens where 11th ranked Giannena (4-16) was defeated by fifth ranked Sporting (10-10) 88-79 on Sunday. Sporting made 17-of-22 free shots (77.3 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. The best player for the winners was American forward Taya Reimer (193-95, college: Michigan St.) who had a double-double by scoring 29 points and 13 rebounds. Victoria-Konstantina Gounari (172-95) chipped in a double-double by scoring 21 points and 10 assists. Four Sporting players scored in double figures. American guard Sierra Calhoun (183-96, college: Rutgers) produced a double-double by scoring 25 points, 11 rebounds and 7 assists and her fellow American import guard Brandy Montgomery (178-95, college: Auburn) added 16 points and 10 rebounds respectively for the guests. Sporting maintains fifth position with 10-10 record. Giannena lost ninth consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the eleventh place with 16 games lost. Sporting will meet Kronos AD (#10) on the road in the next round where they are favorite. Giannena will play against Niki Lefkadas and hope to secure a win.
