Important game to mention about took place in Puerto Vallarta. Fourth ranked Marineras (4-1) saved a 1-point victory at home edging second-ranked Barreteras (3-2) 71-70 on Saturday evening. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The former international forward Karen Ruiz stepped up and scored 32 points for the winners and American point guard Shauqunna Collins (163-94, college: Fresno St.) chipped in 12 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Marineras' coach O Casella allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. The former international swingman Alexis Castro (180-86, college: Vermont) responded with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 11 rebounds and the former international guard Paola Estrada (172-93) scored 15 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Marineras keep a position of league leader, which they share with Mieleras and Quetzales. Barreteras at the other side dropped to the fifth place with two games lost. They share the position with Lobas. Marineras will again play against Barreteras (#5) in Zacatecas in the next round. Barreteras will have a break next round.
