ALBA made a huge step towards the BBL Finals as they thrashed EWE Baskets in the opener. ALBA Berlin led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. American Luke Sikma (203-89, college: Portland) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 11 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners and Icelandic guard Martin Hermannsson (190-94, college: LIU Brooklyn) chipped in 12 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. Five ALBA Berlin players scored in double figures. At the losing side Austrian-Slovenian center Rasid Mahalbasic (211-90, agency: BeoBasket) responded with 23 points and 9 rebounds and American power forward Nathan Boothe (206-94, college: Toledo) scored 17 points (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games.
