Very expected game when 12th ranked Maccabi Ashdod (4-19) was defeated on the road by seventh ranked Ironi Nahariya (10-13) 86-68 on Friday. Ironi Nahariya forced 21 Maccabi Ashdod turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Maccabi Ashdod was plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a great evening for Cape Verdean-Portuguese Ivan Almeida (198-89, college: Stonehill) who led his team to a victory scoring 17 points, 6 rebounds, 9 assists and 5 steals. American point guard Dominic Waters (185-86, college: Portland St., agency: Octagon Europe) helped adding 18 points and 7 assists. American forward Zac Cuthbertson (201-96, college: Coastal) responded with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 15 rebounds and Tzuf Moshe (190-97) scored 11 points. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Ironi Nahariya moved-up to sixth place, which they share with 3 other teams. Maccabi Ashdod lost their fourth game in a row. They stay at the bottom position with 19 games lost. Ironi Nahariya will face Galil Gilboa (#8) in Rosh Pina in the next round. Maccabi Ashdod will play on the road against Hapoel Eilat (#9) and hope to win that game.
