Regular Season Round 23: M.Haifa - Eilat 82-90

An interesting game took place in Haifa where higher ranked Maccabi Haifa (11-12) was upset on its own court by ninth ranked Hapoel Eilat (10-13) 90-82 on Friday. Hapoel Eilat outrebounded Maccabi Haifa 43-31 including 30 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. It was a great evening for American power forward Devon Scott (206-94, college: Philander Smith) who led his team to a victory scoring 16 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Point guard Ziv Ben-Zvi (188-92) helped adding 14 points and 11 assists. Five Hapoel Eilat players scored in double figures. American guard Kenneth Smith (190-93, college: Louisiana Tech) responded with 22 points and 6 assists and the other American import power forward Jerai Grant (203-89, college: Clemson, agency: Octagon Europe) produced a double-double by scoring 13 points and 10 rebounds. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Hapoel Eilat moved-up to sixth place, which they share with 3 other teams. Newly promoted Maccabi Haifa keeps the fifth position with 12 games lost. Hapoel Eilat will face bottom-ranked Maccabi Ashdod (#12) at home in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Maccabi Haifa will play against Ironi Nes-Ziona (#7) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
