Regular Season Round 28: Nes-Ziona - Ashdod 99-97

Twelfth-ranked Maccabi Ashdod (4-24) was very close to win a game against eighth ranked Ironi Nes-Ziona (13-15) in Nes Ziyona on Friday. Ironi Nes-Ziona managed to secure only two-point victory 99-97. However their fans expected much easier game. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Maccabi Ashdod won third quarter 24-17. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Ironi Nes-Ziona looked well-organized offensively handing out 29 assists. The winners were led by Cameroonian-American forward JP Tokoto (198-93, college: UNC) who had that evening a triple-double by scoring 18 points, 15 rebounds and 11 assists and American forward Cameron Oliver (203-96, college: Nevada) supported him with 20 points and 14 rebounds. Five Ironi Nes-Ziona players scored in double figures. Even 32 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists by American-Mexican point guard Paul Stoll (180-85) did not help to save the game for Maccabi Ashdod. American forward Zac Cuthbertson (201-96, college: Coastal) added 17 points and 8 rebounds for lost side. Maccabi Ashdod's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Ironi Nes-Ziona have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to sixth place, which they share with H.Tel-Aviv. Maccabi Ashdod lost ninth consecutive game. They stay dead last with 24 lost games. Ironi Nes-Ziona will meet higher ranked Galil Gilboa (#4) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Maccabi Ashdod will play against Hapoel Tel-Aviv (#6) and hope to secure a win.
