Second Stage Round 18: Fujian S. - Xinjiang FT 106-101

Xinjiang FT (#4) was upset in Jinjiang by seventh ranked Sturgeons 106-101. It ended at the same time the seven-game winning streak of Xinjiang FT. Sturgeons forced 19 Xinjiang FT turnovers. Strangely Xinjiang FT outrebounded Sturgeons 60-45 including a 45-31 advantage in defensive rebounds. They brought some defensive toughness making 8 blocks. Xinjiang FT was plagued by 30 personal fouls down the stretch. The former international Zhelin Wang (214-94) notched a double-double by scoring 21 points, 16 rebounds and 4 blocks to lead the effort and American point guard Ty Lawson (180-87, college: UNC) supported him with 27 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Even a double-double of 22 points, 26 rebounds and 4 blocks by the former international center Zhou Qi (217-96) did not help to save the game for Xinjiang FT. The former international center Ziming Fan (211-98) added 21 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists. Four Sturgeons and five Xinjiang FT players scored in double figures. Xinjiang FT's coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Sturgeons (9-4) moved-up to sixth place. Xinjiang FT at the other side keeps the fourth position with four games lost. They share it with Guangsha L.. Sturgeons will play against Sharks (#9) in Shanghai in the next round. Xinjiang FT will play at home against Long-Lions (#17) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
