There was a surprise result in Loganholme where eleventh ranked Thunder (1-3) won against higher ranked South West Metro Pirates (2-4) 103-88 on Sunday. Thunder dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to South West Metro Pirates' 34. Thunder looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists. Forward Mitch Young (206-90, college: St.Mary's, CA) fired 22 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists for the winners. Forward Atem Bior (201, college: UTSA) chipped in 25 points and 7 rebounds. Thunder's coach used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Naturalized Greek guard Jonathon Mines (193-91, college: NMHU) produced 27 points and 8 rebounds and the former international guard Tanner Krebs (198-96, college: St.Mary's, CA) added 12 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists respectively for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Thunder left bottom position moving up to tenth place in League. Loser South West Metro Pirates dropped to the ninth position with four games lost. Thunder will face higher ranked Phoenix (#4) in Cotton Tree in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
