Regular Season Round 4: Astros - Abejas 108-75

Bottom-ranked Abejas (0-4) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 108-75 loss to fourth ranked Astros (2-2) in Guadalajara on Friday evening. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. Astros dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Abejas' 34. They shot the lights out from three sinking 16 long-distance shots on high 55.2 percentage. Astros looked well-organized offensively handing out 36 assists comparing to just 19 passes made by Abejas' players. International forward Jonatan Machado (200-93) fired 21 points (perfect from the field making all eight shots !!!) for the winners. American Brandon Robinson (196-89, college: Clayton St.) chipped in 19 points and 6 assists. Astros' coach Sergio Valdeolmillos felt very confident that he used entire bench and allowed the starting five to get some rest. American Terrell Carter-II (208-95, college: Fresno St., agency: Haylett Sports) produced 21 points and 7 rebounds and his fellow American import guard Bo Spencer (185-89, college: Nebraska) added 16 points and 6 assists respectively for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Astros moved-up to second place, which they share with 5 other teams. Loser Abejas still closes the standings with four games lost. Astros will face Libertadores (#5) in Queretaro in the next round. Abejas will play at home against the league's second-placed Panteras and hope to get finally their first victory.
