Bottom-ranked Mountaineers (0-9) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 113-49 loss to fourth ranked Roar (5-2) in Toowoomba on Sunday evening. They held Mountaineers to an opponent 25.0 percent shooting from the field compared to 48.3 percent accuracy of the winners. Roar forced 22 Mountaineers turnovers and outrebounded them 58-34 including a 42-26 advantage in defensive rebounds. They shot the lights out from three sinking 18 long-distance shots on high 64.3 percentage. Roar looked well-organized offensively handing out 30 assists comparing to just 13 passes made by Mountaineers' players. New Zealand guard Ashleigh Karaitiana (183-92, college: Hawaii) fired a double-double by scoring 40 points (!!!), 15 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. New Zealand Ajiah-Liric Siosiua-Pepe chipped in 13 points and 8 assists. Four Roar players scored in double figures. Jaydan Thomson produced 13 points and 6 rebounds and Despena Dickerson (-96) added 12 points respectively for lost side. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Roar maintains fourth position in League with 5-2 record. Loser Mountaineers still closes the standings with nine games lost. Roar's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Brisbane to the arena Capitals.
