Rather expected game in Sopot where 11th ranked Polpharma (1-3) was crushed by ninth ranked Trefl (3-2) 110-76 on Thursday. Trefl dominated down low during the game scoring 74 of its points in the paint compared to Polpharma's 32. Trefl forced 20 Polpharma turnovers and outrebounded them 40-26 including 27 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists. The former international center Dominik Olejniczak (213-96, college: FSU) stepped up and scored 17 points and 7 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) for the winners and the former international power forward Pawel Leonczyk (203-86) chipped in 16 points and 7 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). American point guard James Washington (182-87, college: MTSU) responded with 16 points and 8 assists and the other American import guard Steven Haney (195-95, college: LMU) scored 12 points. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Trefl moved-up to sixth place, which they share with GTK Gliwice and Stal Ostrow. Loser Polpharma dropped to the twelfth position with three games lost. Trefl will face BM Slam Stal (#7) in Ostrow Wlkp. in the next round. Polpharma will play on the road against Slask (#5) in Wroclaw and hope to win that game.
