Regular Season Round 7: Mineros - Lenadores 101-99

The biggest surprise took place in Zacatecas where host Mineros (6-1) edged league's leader Lenadores (5-2) 101-99 on Saturday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Lenadores. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Mineros made 24-of-31 free shots (77.4 percent) during the game, while Lenadores only scored eight points from the stripe. Mineros looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. American center Eric Dawson (206-84, college: Midwestern St., agency: Interperformances) fired a double-double by scoring 16 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. The former international point guard Orlando Mendez-Valdez (183-86, college: WKU, agency: Pro Sports) chipped in 14 points and 8 assists. Dawson is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Mineros' coach Allans Colon used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Argentinian guard Enzo Ruiz (194-88) produced 25 points and 9 assists and American-Dominican Antonio Pena (204-86, college: Villanova) added 17 points and 11 rebounds respectively for lost side. Four Mineros and five Lenadores players scored in double figures. Mineros have an impressive series of six victories in a row. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Aaguacateros. Lenadores at the other side dropped to the second place with two games lost. They share the position with Dorados. They were replaced at the leadership position by Mineros. Lenadores will have a break next week, which should allow them to rest and make it back to the top of the standings. Mineros will try to continue on its current victory against third ranked Lenadores in Durango.
