The biggest surprise of round 1 in Korisliiga took place in Helsinki where host HBA-Marsky crushed Catz Lappeenranta 107-35 on Thursday evening. The game without a history. HBA-Marsky led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Catz Lappeenranta to just 6 points in first quarter. HBA-Marsky held Catz Lappeenranta to an opponent 18.5 percent shooting from the field compared to 50.6 percent accuracy of the winners. They outrebounded Catz Lappeenranta 61-23 including a 19-3 advantage in offensive rebounds. HBA-Marsky looked well-organized offensively handing out 33 assists comparing to just 8 passes made by Catz Lappeenranta's players. International guard Saga Ukkonen (175-1) fired 22 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. International guard Kati Ollilainen (173-3) chipped in 9 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists. Four HBA-Marsky players scored in double figures. HBA-Marsky's coach Mirka Dettmann felt very confident using 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. International forward Veera Pirttinen (180-97) produced 10 points and 4 steals and guard Iiris Muhonen (165-3) added 10 points respectively for lost side. Catz Lappeenranta will play next round against Torpan Pojat trying to make it back to the top of the standings. HBA-Marsky will try to continue on its current victory against Tapiolan Honka on the road.
