Regular Season Round 1: Moron - Ponferrada 80-88

There was an upset in Morón de la Frontera where Moron was defeated by Ponferrada 88-80 on Saturday. Luis Ferrando (185-96, college: Mount Olive) stepped up and scored 18 points and 5 assists for the winners and DR Congolese Joel Kanyinda (203-1) chipped in 8 points and 13 rebounds. Four Ponferrada players scored in double figures. Ponferrada's coach David Barrio used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. At the losing side power forward Francisco Marquez (203-99) responded with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 11 rebounds and forward Carlos Apolinario (196-96) scored 10 points and 5 rebounds. Ponferrada will face Juaristi ISB in Azpeitia in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Moron will play on the road against Alcobendas and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
