Regular Season Round 3: Schio - Empoli 77-72

Very expected game when Empoli (1-2) was defeated on the road by Schio (3-0) 77-72 on Sunday. However just five-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Schio outrebounded Empoli 44-28 including a 20-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was a great evening for French center Sandrine Gruda (193-87) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 12 rebounds (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line). New Zealand-British Jillian Harmon (185-87, college: Stanford, agency: LBM Management) helped adding 14 points and 13 rebounds. The best for the losing side was American guard Kamiah Smalls (178, college: JMU, agency: LBM Management) with 20 points and 7 rebounds and naturalized Argentinian point guard Florencia Chagas (178-1) scored 11 points and 5 assists. Five Empoli players scored in double figures. Schio will meet Vigarano (#14) on the road in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Empoli will play against Campobasso (#8) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
