Regular Season Round 13: Abejas - Astros 99-96

A very close game took place in Guanajuato between Abejas and Astros. Sixth ranked Abejas (2-11) got a very close home victory over 3rd placed Astros (7-6). Abejas managed to escape with a 3-point win 99-96 on Tuesday evening. Abejas shot the lights out from three sinking 16 long-distance shots on high 51.6 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. American forward Leron Black (201-96, college: Illinois) stepped up and scored 24 points and 6 rebounds for the winners and American-Dominican forward Angel Nunez (203-91, college: S.Florida) chipped in 24 points. At the losing side Venezuelan point guard Heissler Guillent (186-86) responded with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 12 assists and international center Jose-Israel Gutierrez (206-93) scored 11 points and 6 rebounds. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Astros' coach Sergio Valdeolmillos let to play ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Abejas maintains sixth place with 2-11 record. Loser Astros keep the third position with six games lost. Abejas will again meet at home higher ranked Astros (#3) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Astros will have a break next round.
