Regular Season Round 1: Niki Lefkadas - Giannena 69-89

An interesting game where Giannena crushed host Niki Lefkadas with 20-point difference 89-69 on Sunday evening. Giannena dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Niki Lefkadas' 34. Giannena forced 19 Niki Lefkadas turnovers and outrebounded them 38-26 including 24 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists comparing to just 11 passes made by Niki Lefkadas' players. Canadian forward Samantha Cooper (188-95, college: Fairfield) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 28 points and 15 rebounds for the winners and point guard Angeliki Vintsilaiou (174-98) chipped in 18 points, 6 assists and 5 steals. Four Giannena players scored in double figures. Giannena's coach Nikos Douvitsas used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. At the losing side American guard Samantha Mackay (174-91, college: Dayton) responded with 30 points (on 11-of-14 shooting from the field) and the other American import power forward Laina Snyder (185, college: Ashland) scored 14 points and 8 rebounds. Giannena will meet at home Esperides in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Niki Lefkadas will play against Dafni Agioy in Athens and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
