Regular Season Round 8: Fujitsu RW - Hitachi Cougars 90-61

We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in Kawasaki where second-ranked Hitachi Cougars (7-3) were crushed by third ranked Fujitsu RW (7-3) 90-61 on Sunday. Fujitsu RW forced 22 Hitachi Cougars turnovers. They shot the lights out from three sinking 13 long-distance shots on high 52.0 percentage. Fujitsu RW looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists comparing to just 9 passes made by Hitachi Cougars' players. The best player for the winners was the former international point guard Mio Shinozaki (167-91) who scored 20 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Swingman Uchio Akina (177-97) chipped in 12 points and 7 rebounds. Five Fujitsu RW players scored in double figures. Fujitsu RW had such big advantage that coach BT Toews felt comfortable to give the chance to play for 10 players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. The former international center Rika Tanimura (185-93) produced a double-double by scoring 14 points and 14 rebounds and forward Midori Murayama (179-93) added 11 points respectively for the guests. Fujitsu RW moved-up to second place, which they share with defeated Hitachi Cougars. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
