Not a big story in a game when 15th ranked Tianjin (1-7) lost at home to ninth ranked Vermilion Birds (4-4) 90-79 on Saturday. Vermilion Birds made 17-of-22 free shots (77.3 percent) during the game. Vermilion Birds outrebounded Tianjin 39-27 including 26 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The winners were led by forward Shuyu Yang (180-2) who scored that evening 17 points and 5 rebounds and forward Ke Hu (185-0) supported her with 17 points. Even 21 points and 8 rebounds by forward Ziqi Han (180-99) did not help to save the game for Tianjin. Center Zhuo Ma (190-1) added 17 points and 8 rebounds for the hosts. Four Tianjin players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Vermilion Birds maintains ninth position with 4-4 record. Loser Tianjin keeps the fifteenth place with seven games lost. They share the position with Heilongjiang. Vermilion Birds will meet at home Red Wolves (#13) in the next round. Tianjin will play against Fujian Nanan and hope to win that game.
