Regular Season Round 9: Aishin AW - Mitsubishi K. 53-56

Fifth-ranked Aishin AW (1-7) used its home court advantage to challenge second ranked Mitsubishi K. (7-3) in Anjo on Sunday. The visitors from Nagoya managed to secure only three-point victory 56-53. However their fans expected easier game. The former international swingman Aya Watanabe (169-92) nailed 19 points and 4 assists for the winning side and the former international center Kyoko Hamaguchi (181-90) accounted for 8 points and 12 rebounds. International Kiho Miyashita (178-98) came up with 22 points and 6 rebounds and guard Misa Uchimaga (168-96) added 11 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists respectively for Aishin AW in the defeat. Aishin AW's coach Tadaharu Ogawa tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. The victory was the sixth consecutive win for Mitsubishi K.. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Fujitsu RW and Hitachi Cougars. Aishin AW lost their seventh game in a row. They keep the fifth place with seven games lost. Mitsubishi K. will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Aishin AW will play against the league's second-placed Toyota A. (#2) in Nagoya and hope to win that game.
