Date: October 29, 2020
There was no surprise in Grodno where bottom-ranked Gomel (0-5) was crushed by fifth ranked Victoria (2-3) 97-51 on Thursday. Victoria dominated down low during the game scoring 66 of its points in the paint compared to Gomel's 18. Victoria forced 40 Gomel turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists comparing to just 12 passes made by Gomel's players. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Victoria made 9 blocks. The best player for the winners was point guard Ekaterina Novik (170-5) who scored 22 points and 7 steals (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field). Point guard Evgenia Bernatskaya (170-5) chipped in 18 points, 8 assists and 5 steals. Four Victoria players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was guard Maryna Rakauskaya-Minkevich (173-92) who recorded 16 points and 5 steals and forward Arina Nabokina (184-5) added 4 points and 11 rebounds respectively. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Victoria maintains fifth position with 2-3 record. Loser Gomel still closes the standings with five games lost. Victoria will face higher ranked BDU Tsmoki (#4) in Minsk in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Gomel will play on the road against Olimpia (#3) in Grodno and hopes to get finally their first victory.
