Regular Season Round 5: Kobrat - Kouvot 87-92

There was a minor upset when higher ranked Kobrat (2-3) lost to tenth ranked Kouvot (2-3) in Lapua 87-92. Kobrat was ahead by 3 points at the halftime before a 53-45 second half run of Kouvot. They made 17-of-18 charity shots (94.4 percent) during the game. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 25 assists. The best player for the winners was American forward Antonio Ballard (194-88, college: Miami, OH) who had a double-double by scoring 23 points and 10 rebounds (was perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line !!!). Severi Kaukiainen (185-98) chipped in 21 points and 9 assists. Ballard is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top summer league for players who want to play basketball overseas. American swingman Anthony Gaines-Jr (195-93, college: Louisiana Coll.) produced 23 points and 8 rebounds and the other American import guard Justin Pierce (201-98, college: UNC) added 19 points and 4 assists respectively for the hosts. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Kouvot moved-up to seventh place, which they share with 3 other teams including defeated Kobrat. Kouvot's next round opponent will be higher ranked KTP Basket (#4) in Kotka and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
