Regular Season Round 5: PeKa - Catz 103-55

Leader Peli-Karhut blasted bottom-ranked Catz Lappeenranta (0-5) in Kotka 103-55 keeping the perfect record after 5 rounds. Catz Lappeenranta is still unable to win any game. It looked good early as Catz Lappeenranta took a 2-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Peli-Karhut had a 22-10 second period charge getting the lead and Catz Lappeenranta was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 55-103. Peli-Karhut dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Catz Lappeenranta's 24. They outrebounded Catz Lappeenranta 49-29 including 35 on the defensive glass. Peli-Karhut players were unselfish on offense dishing 27 assists comparing to just 9 passes made by Catz Lappeenranta's players. The best player for the winners was American forward Zykera Rice (185-96, college: Gonzaga) who had a double-double by scoring 25 points and 14 rebounds (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field). Four Peli-Karhut players scored in double figures. Peli-Karhut's coach Roope Makela felt very confident using 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Forward Roosa Kosonen (183-0) produced 16 points and 5 rebounds and international forward Veera Pirttinen (180-97) added 12 points and 6 rebounds respectively for the guests. The victory was the fifth consecutive win for Peli-Karhut. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Espoo Team. Catz Lappeenranta lost their fifth game in a row. They still close the standings with five games lost. Peli-Karhut's next round opponent will be Tapiolan Honka (#3) on the road, which may be the game of the day. Catz Lappeenranta will play against ViVe (#8) and looks forward to get finally their first victory.
