Regular Season Round 8: Tianjin - Beijing RF 80-87

Bottom-ranked Pioneers (0-8) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 87-80 loss to fourteenth ranked Royal Fighters (3-5) in Tianjin. They made 27-of-33 charity shots (81.8 percent) during the game. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. Pioneers were plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. American guard Joseph Young (188-92, college: Oregon) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 19 points, 5 rebounds and 11 assists (was perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line !!!). Center Shaojie Wang (208-96) contributed with 13 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Four Royal Fighters players scored in double figures. Bosnian-Serbian Dejan Todorovic (196-94) replied with a double-double by scoring 25 points, 18 rebounds and 5 assists and forward Liu Shuai (205-95) added 12 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals in the effort for Pioneers. Pioneers' coach tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Royal Fighters moved-up to twelfth place, which they share with Shanghai S. and Shenzhen A. Pioneers at the other side still closes the standings with eight games lost. Royal Fighters will play against higher ranked Flying Tigers (#5) in Urumqi in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Pioneers will play on the road against Jilin Tigers (#3) and will have a slim chance for a victory.
