Regular Season Round 10: Nishinomiya S. - Gunma 82-90

There was no surprise in Hyogo where 5th ranked Nishinomiya S. (4-6) was defeated by second ranked Gunma (8-2) 90-82 on Saturday. Gunma dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to Nishinomiya S.'s 30 and made 17-of-22 free shots (77.3 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Nishinomiya S. 43-28 including a 16-4 advantage in offensive rebounds. Gunma looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. American center Brian Qvale (208-88, college: Montana) fired a double-double by scoring 17 points, 12 rebounds and 7 assists for the winners. The other American import power forward Justin Keenan (202-89, college: Ferris St.) chipped in 24 points and 7 rebounds. Four Gunma players scored in double figures. Point guard Shota Watanabe (180-93) produced 19 points and 5 rebounds and American forward DeQuan Jones (203-90, college: Miami, FL) added 11 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists respectively for lost side. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Gunma have an impressive six-game winning streak. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Ibaraki R. and Saga B. Nishinomiya S. lost third consecutive game. They keep the fifth place with six games lost. Gunma will have a break next round. Nishinomiya S. will play again at home against the league's leader Gunma (#1) and hope to win that game.
