Regular Season Round 7: Pyrinto - Lahti 118-88

The game between third ranked Lahti (4-2) and sixth ranked Pyrinto (5-2) was the most important one in the last round on Saturday night. Lahti was crushed by Pyrinto in Tampere 118-88. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Lahti. It was a key game for the second position in the league. The hosts trailed by 4 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 1-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 118-88. Pyrinto forced 20 Lahti turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. American guard Marcus Lewis (193-92, college: EKU) fired 38 points (!!!), 9 rebounds and 7 assists for the winners. His fellow American import guard David Gonzalvez (193-87, college: Richmond) chipped in 14 points and 4 assists (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field). Pyrinto's coach Miikka Sopanen felt very confident that he used 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Canadian guard Wayne McCullough (195-94, college: CCU) produced 16 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists and forward Henri Ventoniemi (207-95, college: UWF, agency: Players Group) added 17 points and 8 rebounds respectively for lost side. Four Pyrinto and five Lahti players scored in double figures. Pyrinto moved-up to second place, which they share with KTP Basket and Nokia. Lahti at the other side dropped to the fifth position with two games lost. Pyrinto is looking forward to face Ura Basket (#11) in Kaarina in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Lahti will play on the road against the league's leader Seagulls (#1) in Helsinki and is hoping to win this game.
