Regular Season Round 5: Bucaneros - Spartans 67-61

The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of Spartans (4-1) in La Guaira on Sunday night. Visitors were defeated by fourth ranked Bucaneros (4-1) 67-61. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Spartans. Bucaneros forced 22 Spartans turnovers. Point guard Yochuar Palacios (183-88) stepped up and scored 16 points for the winners and international forward Elder Gimenez (186-91) chipped in 9 points. International swingman Pedro Chourio (186-90, agency: Pro Sports) responded with 14 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists and the former international forward Lenin Lopez (198-91) scored 7 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Bucaneros moved-up to third place, which they share with defeated Spartans. Bucaneros is looking forward to face Centauros (#5) in the next round. Spartans' supporters also look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Caracas to the arena Diablos.
