Regular Season Round 12: Kawasaki BT - Ryukyu GK 83-89

B1 League top team - Ryukyu GK (10-2) added another victory to their record on Sunday. This time they beat fifth ranked Toshiba Thunders (8-4) in Kanagawa 89-83. They outrebounded Toshiba Thunders 30-19 including 20 on the defensive glass. The winners were led by American power forward Jack Cooley (206-91, college: Notre Dame, agency: Pensack Sports) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 23 points and 11 rebounds and the other American import forward Dwayne Evans (201-92, college: St.Louis, agency: Wasserman) supported him with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Five Ryukyu GK players scored in double figures. Even 40 points (!!!) and 9 rebounds (went 11 for 11 at the free throw line !!!) by international power forward Nick Fazekas (211-85, college: Nevada) did not help to save the game for Toshiba Thunders. The former international swingman Naoto Tsuji (185-89) added 10 points and 8 assists. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Ryukyu GK have an impressive ten-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 10-2 record, which they share with Chiba J. and Toyama G. Defending champion Toshiba Thunders dropped to the second place with four games lost. They share the position with 3 other teams. Ryukyu GK will meet Diamond Dolphins (#3) in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Toshiba Thunders will play against the league's second-placed Chiba J. and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
