Very expected game in Maturin where 7th ranked Cangrejeros (2-3) were crushed by leader Guaiqueries (4-0) 89-68 on Sunday. Guaiqueries outrebounded Cangrejeros 43-29 including 33 on the defensive glass. International forward Anthony Perez (206-93, college: Ole Miss) stepped up and scored 24 points and 6 rebounds for the winners and international Gendric Correa (190-95) chipped in 16 points. Four Guaiqueries players scored in double figures. Point guard Eduardo Rios (182-88) responded with 17 points and 7 rebounds and guard Amos Acosta (180-96) scored 8 points and 4 assists. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Guaiqueries. They moved-up to second place. Loser Cangrejeros dropped to the eighth position with three games lost. Guaiqueries will face Gladiadores (#6) in the next round. Cangrejeros will play against Brillantes and hope to win that game.
