There was an upset in Tokyo where 4th placed Toyota Alvark (8-5) was defeated by eighth ranked Niigata A. (5-9) 84-76 on Wednesday. Niigata A. looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Hungarian-American Rosco Allen (208-93, college: Stanford, agency: Pensack Sports) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 24 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners and American-Bulgarian center Jason Washburn (213-90, college: Utah, agency: Pensack Sports) chipped in 20 points and 8 rebounds. Four Niigata A. players scored in double figures. At the losing side American center Alex Kirk (211-91, college: N.Mexico, agency: Pensack Sports) responded with a double-double by scoring 20 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists and the other American import forward Kevin Jones (206-89, college: WVU) scored 14 points and 6 rebounds. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Niigata A. maintains eighth place with 5-9 record. Loser Toyota Alvark dropped to the second position with five games lost. Niigata A. will face Hokkaido L. (#10) in Saporro in the next round. Toyota Alvark will play at home against San-en NeoPhoenix (#10) and hope to win that game.
