There was no surprise in Caracas where 10th ranked Diablos (1-5) were defeated by third ranked Spartans (5-1) 63-56 on Wednesday. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Spartans made 10 blocks. The best player for the winners was international swingman Pedro Chourio (186-90, agency: Pro Sports) who scored 14 points. The former international Jose Rodriguez (197-94) chipped in 13 points and 6 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field). At the other side the best for losing team was forward Angelo Cisneros (198-97) who recorded 20 points and 7 rebounds and point guard Leinfer Montes (192-94) added 8 points and 6 rebounds respectively. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Spartans moved-up to second place, which they share with Gigantes. Diablos lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the twelfth position with five games lost. Spartans will face Llaneros (#6) in the next round. Diablos will play against Centauros (#4) and hope to win that game.
