Regular Season Round 5: Kutaisi - Tskhum-Abkhazeti 81-78

The most exciting game of round 4 in the Superleague took place in Kutaisi. This derby game ended with only three-point defeat on the road of 5th ranked Tskhum-Abkhazeti (2-2) to top-ranked Kutaisi (4-0) 81-78 on Friday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Tskhum-Abkhazeti. The hosts trailed by 12 points after first quarter, but they rallied back and won the game by 3 points. Kutaisi forced 23 Tskhum-Abkhazeti turnovers. Strangely Tskhum-Abkhazeti outrebounded Kutaisi 48-27 including a 33-22 advantage in defensive rebounds. Worth to mention a great performance of American point guard Kaheem Ransom (183-93, college: SHSU) who helped to win the game recording 19 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists and 6 steals. The other American import guard DeJuan Wright (190-88, college: FIU) contributed with 17 points and 5 steals (made all of his seven free throws) for the winners. Five Kutaisi players scored in double figures. International forward Aleksandre Phevadze (206-98) replied with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 14 rebounds and the former international center Giorgi Sharabidze (210-90) added 13 points and 8 rebounds in the effort for Tskhum-Abkhazeti. Tskhum-Abkhazeti's coach Nikoloz Cherkezishvili rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Kutaisi have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 4-0 record. Tskhum-Abkhazeti at the other side dropped to the sixth place with two games lost. They share the position with Batumi. Kutaisi will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Tskhum-Abkhazeti's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Tbilisi Mgzavrebi.
