Regular Season Round 5: Quintanar - Rivas 65-78

There was a small surprise when leader Rivas (1-0) beat on the road 3rd placed Quintanar (1-1) 78-65 on Saturday. It was a key game for the second position in Group B-A. Rivas outrebounded Quintanar 43-29 including a 16-4 advantage in offensive rebounds. Quintanar was plagued by 30 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was point guard Alvaro Frutos (188-87) who scored 18 points and 4 assists. American center Julien Sargent (211-91, college: Mobile, AL) chipped in a double-double by scoring 10 points and 12 rebounds. Ukrainian forward Artem Yailo (202-0) produced 20 points and 6 rebounds and guard Jordi Bergada (188-99) added 12 points respectively for the hosts. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Rivas left bottom position moving up to second place in Group B-A, which they share with Estudiantes B and Estudio. Loser Quintanar dropped to the fifth position with one game lost. Rivas will face league's second-placed Estudiantes B in Madrid in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week.
