Regular Season Round 5: Filipenses - Univ.Valladolid 106-66

There was an upset in Palencia where 4th placed Univ.Valladolid (1-1) was outplayed by ninth ranked Filipenses (2-2) 106-66 on Saturday. Filipenses dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Univ.Valladolid's 30 and made 21-of-27 free shots (77.8 percent) during the game. Filipenses forced 25 Univ.Valladolid turnovers and outrebounded them 44-24 including a 32-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. Filipenses looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists comparing to just 8 passes made by Univ.Valladolid's players. The best player for the winners was Swedish power forward Sebastian Andersson (204-2) who had a double-double by scoring 29 points and 12 rebounds. Forward David Melero (190-91) chipped in 26 points and 5 rebounds (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field). Javier Martinez (187-97) produced 18 points and 8 rebounds and Ignacio Sierra (196-97) added 12 points respectively for the guests. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Filipenses moved-up to fourth place in Group A-B. Loser Univ.Valladolid dropped to the fifth position with one game lost. Filipenses will face league's second-placed Burgos Nissan on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Univ.Valladolid will play against Cantbasket and hope to win that game.
