Very expected game when 7th ranked Akita Happinets (8-7) were smashed on the road by second ranked Chiba J. (12-3) 102-58 on Sunday. Chiba J. dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Akita Happinets' 28. They outrebounded Akita Happinets 44-18 including a 33-11 advantage in defensive rebounds. Chiba J. looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Chiba J. made 8 blocks. It was a good game for Spanish forward Sebastian Saiz (205-94, college: Ole Miss) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 22 points, 11 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 blocks. The former international point guard Yuki Togashi (170-93) contributed with 27 points (on 10-of-12 shooting from the field) for the winners. Point guard Takuya Nakayama (182-94) answered with 12 points and 4 assists and the former international forward Kengo Nomoto (196-92) added 14 points in the effort for Akita Happinets. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Chiba J. keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Ryukyu GK. Akita Happinets lost their third game in a row. They dropped to the sixth place with seven games lost. Chiba J. will face Hokkaido L. (#9) in Saporro in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Akita Happinets will play at home against Niigata A. and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
