Regular Season Round 10: Vilpas - Kouvot 105-72

There was no surprise in Salo where 9th ranked Kouvot (3-6) was crushed by seventh ranked Vilpas (5-4) 105-72 on Wednesday. The game without a history. Vilpas led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Kouvot's 34. Vilpas looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists comparing to just 13 passes made by Kouvot's players. American forward Ladarien Griffin (200-96, college: St.Bonaventure) fired 18 points and 5 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) for the winners. The other American import guard Myles Stephens (196-97, college: Princeton) chipped in 19 points. Vilpas' coach Sami Toiviainen felt very confident that he used 10 players and allowed the starting five to rest. American forward Antonio Ballard (194-88, college: Miami, OH) produced a double-double by scoring 20 points and 10 rebounds and the former international point guard Tuomas Hirvonen (181-96) added 17 points and 6 assists respectively for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Defending champion moved-up to sixth place, which they share with KTP Basket. Loser Kouvot keeps the ninth position with six games lost. Vilpas will face Ura Basket (#11) in Kaarina in the next round where they are favorite. Kouvot will play at home against Kauhajoki and hope to win that game.
