Regular Season Round 7: Ferrol - Aviles 92-35

LF2 top team - Ferrol (7-0) had no problems winning another game on Saturday. This time they crushed thirteenth ranked Aviles (0-5) 92-35. Ferrol dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Aviles' 28 and had 19 for 29 from the free-throw line, while Aviles only scored one point from the stripe. Ferrol forced 23 Aviles turnovers and outrebounded them 44-29 including a 19-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. Aviles was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a very good performance for swingman Irene Gari (185-94, college: Georgia Tech) who helped to win the game recording 19 points and 8 rebounds. American-Samoan guard Geraldynn Leaupepe (175-96, college: Cal Poly) contributed with 11 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Leaupepe is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Ferrol players scored in double figures. Portuguese swingman Marcy Goncalves (177-90) answered with 11 points and 7 rebounds and Angolan-Portuguese Artemis Barbosa (183-93) added 4 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for Aviles. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. The victory was the seventh consecutive win for Ferrol. They maintain first place with 7-0 record. Aviles lost their fifth game in a row. They still close the standings with five games lost. Ferrol will face league's second-placed Ardoi in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Aviles will play against Coruna (#8) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
