Regular Season Round 8: Almeda - Girona 49-39

We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams when 12th ranked Girona (1-7) was defeated on the road by thirteenth ranked Almeda (1-5) 49-39 on Sunday. Almeda held Girona to an opponent 22.8 percent shooting from the field compared to 41.5 percent accuracy of the winners. Worth to mention a great performance of power forward Claudia Baraut (182-94) who helped to win the game recording 18 points and 6 rebounds and Laia Marti (-1) who added 11 points and 5 rebounds during the contest. Power forward Laia Moya (182-1) responded with 12 points and 5 rebounds and Vanessa Gonzalez (-94) scored 7 points and 8 rebounds. Girona's coach Joan Torralba let to play eleven players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Almeda left bottom position moving up to twelfth place in Group C. It was Girona's third loss in a row. They dropped to the thirteenth position with seven games lost. Almeda will face higher ranked Joventut (#10) in Badalona in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Girona will play against Azulejos and hope to win that game.
